What's new at The Loft - Episode 118

October Calendar Club Quilt

Things have been so crazy at the loft lately.  My "day" job has been keeping me so busy that I've hardly had time to work on some of my own projects.  I have several in the works right now and I hope I will have them done soon so I can share with you.

Of course October means Halloween, so I at least wanted to show you my own version of Kim Schaefer's Calendar quilt for October.

I used silver metallic thread to add a spider web,

and added my own Halloween themed appliques

In my next post I hope to have the November Calendar quilt done and hope to share how I decorated my pumpkin this year.  So come back soon.

p.s. Comments are always welcome so feel free to drop me a line and let me know what is on your mind.  Thanks for stopping by!

What's new at The Loft - Episode 117

It's all about the change

For the past several months I have been working on the Kimberly Schaeffer's calendar quilts.

I love making these but I have to admit that the mini quilt wall hangings shown in the book, while cute are to me a bit boring.  So when I go to work on the next months mini quilt the first thing I think of is how am I going to change it.   Making these quilts has now become all about the change for me.

It started with the June quilt, which was cute but I really didn't like the ants.

So I decided to have a little fun with it and made mind a tribute to the Eric Carle's children's book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" with an orange, lollipop, ice cream, a leaf, a cupcake and of course the Caterpillar.  I also use a small red gingham print for the squares to look like a picnic.

When I worked on September I at first was a little stumped on how I would change it

Here's the design from the book
Inspiration hit and I added some squares of chalkboard fabric and I created notebook paper out of muslin for the background.

Here is how is how mine came out

Here's a closer look at some of the squares

and for a back I found this cute school fabric.

I am working on October now, and I can't wait to share the changes I made to that pattern too.

Thanks for stopping by.  As always comments are welcome, so feel free to drop me a line and let me know what you think.
